INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE:

If you don't see a functioning monitor strip above, you computer may no support our online sample version, or you may need to download the Shockwave Media Player.

The fetal monitor strip is scanned in and displayed in the middle of the viewer. It can be scrolled left and right in the viewer and various features can be selected to enhance the information of the strip. Each small box on the strip represents 10 sec, each 2 boxes measures 1 cm, and every 3 cm is 1 minute. In reality, the strip would feed through the machine at 3cm/min.

The WHITE BAND along the bottom represents the length of this particular strip. The RED MARKINGS represent specific times of importance along this particular strip.

To navigate through the strip, click the ARROW buttons in the lower right corner, or drag the black SLIDER bar along the white band.

You can have the strip move automatically at a slow pace by clicking on PLAY. To stop this movement, click on STOP.

The GREY PANEL along the middle right side opens and closes by clicking on the arrow along its left edge. With the panel closed, the strip is represented as the nurse would have seen it coming out of the machine. Opening the panel allows the viewer to see the entire strip across the entire width of the viewer.

Clicking on a red marking within the white band advances the SLIDER to that time and displays an annotation in the grey panel.

Clicking on the GUIDES along the bottom left turns helpful guides on and off. These guide can be moved across the strip to hilite or measure certain details of the strip.

The YELLOW guide is a vertical bar that covers 1 minute of monitor strip. This bar is helpful for hiliting an event and for measuring if a fetal heart deceleration lasts longer than 1 minute.

The GREEN guide is a horizontal bar that covers 40 bpm from 120 to 160 bpm. This represents the normal range for the fetal heart rate and can be used to help show deviance from normal heart rates (Tachycardia and Bradycardia).

The BLUE guide is a general horizontal line which can be moved up and down to help orient trends across horizontal spans.

The RED A and RED B guides are vertical lines that can be used to mark off a left and right border of a certain span of strip.

The RED CIRCLE guide is a red circle that is ideal for circling areas of the strip that you wish to isolate for the audience to concentrate on.
